Brazil Consumer Confidence Eases from 3-Month High

The seasonally adjusted FGV-IBRE Consumer Confidence Index fell by 0.8 points to 85.9 in June 2025, ending a three-month upward trend and signaling sentiment stabilization. The decline was driven by worsening perceptions of the present, with the current household financial situation dropping 2.1 points to 72.5, and a slight 0.4 point fall in the Expectations Index, to 88.7.

Meanwhile, one of its components, the family’s future financial situation, rose by 1.2 points to 88.6. According to FGV economist Anna Carolina Gouveia, this combination — a downward revision of current conditions, coupled with lingering concerns about the family budget, especially in light of debt, high interest rates, and restrictive monetary policy — reflects a cautious consumer, even as economic activity and the labor market remain relatively resilient. As a result, the index remains below the neutral 100-point mark, indicating that consumer sentiment is still pessimistic in general.
